Well that is what the salesmen will tell you anyways..

Ask any experienced professional Upholstery Cleaner and you most likely will hear a different tune.

While most Micro Fibers do clean up nice they can be a bear to spot clean by end users with out leaving water rings once the piece is soiled over the whole panel. Ultra Suedes and the like also tend to tear and scratch easily and the thinner weight fabrics are easily damaged by pet’s toenails. Don’t believe the claims that these new “miracle” fabrics are un-stainable either. Synthetic dyes can easily become part of the permanent landscape if not cleaned up quickly.

Generally, microfiber is a mixture of polyester and polyamide (a nylon by-product) available in a mixture of 80/20, 75/25, or 70/30 etc polyester and polyamide ratios. Microfibers can be available alone or mixed with usual denier man-made fibers as well as with natural fibers such as cotton, wool, silk even rayon too. Micro-fibers are made from polyester, nylon, rayon and most recently acrylic. They also can be blended with other fibers including Lycra spandex. These mixtures improve the look; adorn and the performance of the fabric. Micro-fibers can be woven or knitted into a wide range of fabrics such as satin, faille, crepe, twill, taffeta and broadcloth. A variety of microfibers and its finishes improves the appearance and experience like silks, sand washed, or a leather and feather look. Generally the blends the contain a natural fiber will not clean up as well as a purely synthetic composition.

Be very careful not to use any sort of solvent based cleaning agents on these fabrics that have a backing involved in their construction. Open the zipper on a cushion and inspect the back, if you don’t know what to look for, stop and use only water based spotting agents as the solvent products will cause delamination of the backing material and leave bubbles on the fabric surface

Here is a well used piece that lives it’s  life in front of a television set (which is a death sentence for any upholstered furniture when kids or husbands are around)

Just imagine wearing the same pair of pants or a shirt for years and years and not ever washing it…

You Can Keep Your Home Free of Pet Odors

Posted by: Mike | Comments (0)

Pets are a source of companionship and joy for millions of us.

Understand how to help your pets stay healthy, clean and happy and your home will be fresher for it. There are two pet-related problems that can affect the freshness of your home and its furnishings. These are pet accidents, both urine and feces, and body oils. Knowing about them can make living with a pet an even more positive experience.

Hot steamy weather is the time you are most likely to notice pet odors. That’s when pet hair, skin dander, and the residue from “pet accidents” begin to decompose — generating a distinct “doggie” smell that plagues even the most fastidiously cleaned homes.

Dogs, especially, secrete oils from their fur and paw pads. Good grooming and baths keep this in check. Periodically launder your pet’s bedding. If your pet has a favorite spot on the floor or in a chair, you might want to put a pet blanket/rug or some other washable item there.

Pet accidents are always cause for concern. Animal behaviorists will tell you that by instinct pets are attentive to good hygiene. They don’t want to have accidents in their homes. When they do, it is usually because of some other factor. Perhaps the pet is sick. Perhaps the pet’s exercise schedule was interrupted or wasn’t long enough. Perhaps the litter box needs to be cleaned. Maybe the pet has been traumatized. It’s been recommended that the first thing to do when a pet unexplainably starts having accidents is to talk to your veterinarian.

As far as cleanup goes, you need to blot up as much of the problem as you can. If solids are involved, gently scrape it up with a bit of cardboard. Work from the outside toward the center. This is important: Don’t apply house cleaners to the site. Some of them can change the color, texture or stain resistance of the affected fibers. Some can leave strong smelling residues that serve as “marker” triggering further accidents from your pets. New safe-to-use enzyme products are available which do an excellent job of treating these problems areas.

Here’s How You Can Help Keep Your “Home-With-Pets” Clean and Fresh

  1. Act immediately when pet accidents occur. The longer the soil stands, the greater the chance it will seep through the carpet to the pad and floor.
  2. Remove as much moisture as possible by blotting the spot with a clean white absorbent material. The more moisture you remove now, the less residue has to be treated later. Using a clean white absorbent material lessens the risk of transferring dye between your cleaning material and your affected fabric. It also helps you to “see” if the stain is being successfully removed.
  3. If you catch the animal in the act, use a mixture of one part ammonia to three parts water. Spray it on thespot to neutralize the urine, let stand for five minutes, then flush with water and blot with a dry towel. If theurine spot is not fresh, use an enzyme to help kill the odor
  4. Call us. We are trained and equipped to thoroughly clean, disinfect and deodorize pet stains. We also stand behind our work.

Connoisseur Tile & Grout Cleaning BIG Cleaning Truck - Providing premium tile cleaning, grout cleaning, stone cleaning, grout recoloring, and restoration in the Santa Cruz area including Aptos and San Jose

A Brief History

We’d like to introduce Mike and Paula Pailliotet of Connoisseur Tile & Grout Cleaning. Connoisseur is a quality minded company in the Santa Cruz area (Aptos, Capitola, Watsonville, Corralitos, Scotts Valley, Felton, Boulder Creek, Ben Lomond), also serving parts of Santa Clara county including San Jose, Saratoga , Los Gatos and the Summitt area (minimum charge) .They began Connoisseur as an owner operated company in May of 2001, and continue strong by gaining trust throughout the community.

Although it is a relatively young company, Mike has quite a bit of experience in the industry. He began in the field in 1987, in the L.A. area, working for a large company. With a new family to support (baby Monique on the way), Mike was lucky to find his niche. How many people do you know who truly like their job?  In the fall of 1988, the family of three moved to the Santa Cruz area, and Mike began working for a large carpet and upholstery cleaning company in the Bay Area. Not long after that (in 1990) their son Davis was born.

For the next 12.5 years, while working for the large company, Mike gained much experience. He became certified by the IICRC (http://www.certifiedcleaners.org) in Carpet Cleaning, Upholstery & Fabric Cleaning and Stone. (He is now also certified in Stone, Masonry & Ceramic Tile Cleaning.) He was involved in research and development of new equipment, products and techniques. He became confident in cleaning all sorts of carpet, upholstery and area rug fibers, even the ones most cleaners shy away from. He was also the most requested technician, asked for by most of the customers in his territory. Not only were people attracted to his skill and expertise, but also his friendly manner and sense of humor.

Mike put all this experience to work for him in his own business, Connoisseur, and is joined by his wife of 22 years, as office manager and occasional helper on the job site. You may also see the now teenage children helping here and there. Super assistant-extraordinaire Oswaldo Lee is also on board four days a week to help your job get done in a timely manner.

Mike with his Vortex Tile & Grout Cleaning machine

We have the equipment, knowledge and passion to get your floors and upholstery as clean as possible. We spend a fortune on equipment to stay on top of our trade, and it shows. We invite you to discover the best kept secret in carpet cleaning in the Santa Cruz Area.
DIFFERENT CLEANING PROCESSES

Steam? Shampoo? Dry Cleaning?  They all have their place and we do them all.

Don’t be taken by the many “One Method” cleaners in town. Whichever cleaning process we choose to best suit your carpet or upholstery, rest assured, we will take the time to do it right. You’ll never find us rushing through a job. We know how important each and every happy customer is.

We have the knowledge, equipment and techniques to get your carpet looking it’s best. We will safely and quickly get your carpet cleaned and dry. When it comes to Hot Water Extraction cleaning, our patented Vortex Cleaning Machine delivers results like you’ ve never seen before.  In most cases our “wet” cleaning process will dry quicker then our competitor’s “Dry” process. And you get the benefit of the sanitizing effect that only super hot water can provide. The Vortex also allows us to clean further away from our truck then any other company in town.

Cleaning your carpet to help maintain it’s looks and to prevent wear is very important. But what is even more important is to keep your home’s filter, your carpet, as clean as possible. Nothing effects in-home air quality more then having your carpets properly cleaned on a regular basis. Studies have proven time and again that clean floors will play the biggest roll in improving your allergen related problems.

The finest flooring retailers in town only refer us to their clients because they know our results cannot be beat. We invite you to see the difference.

“If you are looking for the cheapest company to clean your carpet, don’t look here.  If you are looking for quality, dependability, and integrity in a company because you value your home or business and care about extending the life of your carpet and care about how it looks, you are in the right place.  Paula and Mike run a top notch service with all of the latest know-how and some incredible work ethic thrown in.  They have never disappointed me, and I’m told that I’m picky.  I prefer the word discriminating.  My time is valuable to me and they are great at respecting my schedule and keeping their end of our bargain.  I hope to do business with them for a good while.”
